the country which has been spared more by the torrents
of history than most other regions.

the opposite direction, you rnight have wizzed through the
country already. But for once why not try spending some more
time in Western Hungary which has so much enticement and
recreation to offer for both comfort-loving motorists and
adventurous hikers. We are not presenting you with facts
and figures, only inviting you to discover and rediscover
the thousand faces of this wonderful region.
Visit castles or monuments, refresh yourself at
healing resorts, enjoy true village, discover the living
folk art and local craftsmanship. Taste the special dishes,
try the tempting wines, do sports and join bycicle trips.
This is local colour, a unique blend of specific flavoursthat
caracterize the region... But wish for more - you will
surely get it , as there are thousands of further possibilities.
The enticing, hospitable, marvellous Western Transdanubia
is assuredly well worth a visit.
The region lying west of the Danube has everything that makes
exploring the country and recreation pleasant and diverse:
there are royal cities, picturesque hills,
shallow lakes and parks offering irresistible walks. The region, blessed with
natural beauty and full of history, is ideal for boat trips
and cycling and offers a wide selection
of excellent wines.
The towns and cities among the hills are rich in historic monuments.
The Pannonhalma Abbey, custodian of Hungarian cultural heritage
and Lake Fertő and its surroundings are World Heritage
sites.
