| Szenna
The museum village of Szenna, built in the very heart of this living village,
was awarded the Europa Nostra Prize. It is an outdoor
collection of houses,
displaying the characteristics of 19th-century architecture, first taken
apart in numbered pieces at the place of their construction and then reconstructed
in the museum. The museum looks as if it were a real village: next to wooden-porched
houses with smokey kitchens are the timbered buildings of the cooper's, the
distillery, the press house and stables.
The painted panelled ceiling of the Calvinist Church, built
in 1787, is adorned with 117 unique flower patterns, with
no two alike among them. A multitude of protected plants
and animals inhabit the richly wooded Zselic Nature Reserve,
an ideal place for hiking.
